Specialized Parkinson's Care: Movement & Independence
Living with Parkinson's Disease requires a care partner who understands that symptoms can change from hour to hour. At CareWell Homecare, our caregivers are specifically educated in the complexities of Parkinson's, focusing on maximizing "on" periods and providing expert support during "off" times. We provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, moving at the client's pace to reduce frustration. By timing our care around medication schedules, we help your loved one maintain their dignity while navigating the physical challenges of tremors, rigidity, and slowed movement. To ensure the most effective support, the correct level of assistance for each task is determined during our comprehensive initial assessment.
One of the most distressing symptoms of Parkinson's is the "freezing of gait"—the feeling that one's feet are glued to the floor. Our caregivers are trained in specialized freezing strategies to help clients move safely and effectively. Instead of pulling or rushing the client, we use proven techniques such as rhythmic counting, visual cueing, and weight-shifting. We guide clients through safe movement patterns to prevent freezing and ensure they feel confident navigating doorways and floor-type transitions.
Because Parkinson's can affect balance and posture, our fall prevention assistance is proactive and vigilant. We provide support during transitions and movement throughout the home to minimize risks and build client confidence. Furthermore, we act as a bridge to professional therapy; our caregivers are trained to assist with Home Exercise Programs (HEPs) prescribed by Physical or Occupational Therapists. We provide the motivation and oversight needed for daily "Big and Loud" movements, range-of-motion stretches, and balance exercises that are critical for maintaining mobility.
