Specialized Care for Complex Chronic Illness (Lyme, POTS, Long COVID)
Managing complex chronic conditions like Lyme Disease, POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), Long COVID, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) requires a care partner who understands the "invisible" nature of these illnesses. At CareWell Homecare, our caregivers are specially educated in the unique challenges of autonomic dysfunction and post-exertional malaise (PEM). We provide patient assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, while prioritizing energy conservation to prevent "crashing." We recognize that your symptoms may fluctuate daily, which is why the correct level of assistance for each task is determined during our initial assessment and tailored to your specific needs.
Energy Pacing & Orthostatic Safety
For those living with POTS or chronic fatigue, simple movements can lead to heart rate spikes or profound exhaustion. Our caregivers are trained in Pacing and Energy Conservation (the "5 Ps"), helping you plan and prioritize your day to stay within your "energy envelope." We provide dedicated fall prevention assistance that is specifically adapted for orthostatic intolerance; this includes providing steady support during transitions from lying down to standing and ensuring you have immediate access to hydration and salt as recommended by your doctor. Our goal is to minimize the physical "tax" on your body so you can focus your limited energy on the things that matter most.
Cognitive Support & Home Exercise Oversight
"Brain fog" and cognitive fatigue are often just as debilitating as physical symptoms. Our caregivers provide gentle cognitive support, helping with organization, medication reminders, and reducing sensory overload in the home environment. We also act as a partner in your physical recovery by supervising Home Exercise Programs (HEPs). Because traditional exercise can sometimes trigger a relapse in these conditions, our caregivers are trained to follow the specific, low-impact protocols prescribed by your specialists—such as recumbent (seated) exercises or gentle stretching—ensuring you stay active without overexertion.
